DAvid McFarland (Lucky)
Owner / Artist.David “Lucky” McFarland is not just a tattoo artist—he’s a force forged through grit, redemption, and an unshakable passion for art. As the owner and lead artist of Ink Slingerz Tattoo Studio in Owasso, Oklahoma, Lucky brings over 29 years of experience to the craft, mastering a wide range of styles while becoming especially known for his striking black and grey realism.
A multi award-winning artist, Lucky’s work has earned recognition for its precision, depth, and impact. His journey wasn’t handed to him—it was earned. After finding himself on the wrong path and surrounded by the wrong influences, Lucky turned to tattooing as both an escape and a purpose. What started as an outlet quickly became a calling. Under the mentorship of industry legends Eddie “Bossman” Smith and Ashley “Dash” Williams, he refined his skill, discipline, and artistic voice—emerging as one of Oklahoma’s most respected artists. His speed, precision, and consistency even earned him recognition as one of the fastest tattoo artists in the state.
But beyond the ink, Lucky’s legacy is built on connection. He doesn’t just tattoo clients—he builds relationships. Every person who sits in his chair is treated like family, every piece of art created with intention, respect, and a deep understanding of the story behind it. For Lucky, tattooing isn’t just about what’s on the skin—it’s about what it means to the soul.

ArtistI’ve been an artist my entire life, but I’ve always cared more about how something is built than just what it looks like. I started in graphic design, which shaped the way I approach my work—composition first, everything else second. Tattooing became the perfect fit because it demands both creativity and structure, and challenges me to create work that not only looks strong, but lasts.
I began my apprenticeship in Laramie, Wyoming, and later found my footing at Medicine Man Tattoo, where I built consistency, confidence, and a deeper understanding of how to design tattoos that hold up over time—both visually and structurally on the body. I specialize in Black & Grey, Illustrative Realism, Script, and Neo-Traditional, with a focus on strong shapes, clear contrast, and pieces that flow naturally and read well from a distance.
To me, tattooing is a form of translation. Clients come in with an idea, a feeling, or sometimes something that doesn’t fully exist yet—and it’s my job to turn that into something real that works. That process is part problem-solving, part instinct, and part experience, and it’s what keeps me invested in every piece I create.
I’m especially drawn to dynamic, story-driven designs—animals in motion, bold compositions, and concepts with an unexpected edge. I enjoy building tattoos that feel alive, balanced, and intentional, while still having a bit of bite to them.
I take a collaborative but structured approach with my clients. I’ll guide you through placement, scale, and design decisions so you understand not just what looks good, but why it works. I strongly prefer custom, hand-drawn designs, and I’m intentional about keeping my work original and built from the ground up.
While tattooing is my profession, I don’t treat it like something routine. I understand that for some people this might be a spontaneous decision, and for others it carries deep personal meaning—but either way, every client who sits in my chair is taken seriously. What I do has the potential to impact how someone feels about themselves or their story, and I approach that responsibility with focus, respect, and full attention every time.
Outside of tattooing, I enjoy being outdoors—especially paddle-boarding—or finding time to reset away from the studio with my 2 cats!
My ideal project is a large-scale piece where a client brings me an animal and a personal story, and I’m able to translate both into something cohesive, dynamic, and lasting.
If you’re getting your first tattoo, find an artist whose work you genuinely connect with—not just someone who can replicate an image. The best tattoos come from trust, collaboration, and strong design, and should always be built for the person wearing them.

ArtistThe inspiration to become a Professional tattoo artist came from the love of art I experienced growing up. Such as comic book art, the art from animated movies or graffiti I saw growing up. It always inspired me. Art is powerful enough to sway a person’s views; it can entertain or influence your next decision to as little as your next purchase. I found it fascinating.
I got started in tattooing after a few years from graduating at the American Academy of Art. I earned a bachelor’s in fine art specializing in life drawing. The 4-year degree opened my eyes to many art mediums. I experienced life as a painter did a few art galleries and murals. I found it difficult to make a living, so I decided to find a formal tattoo apprenticeship. It took me a few years to find the shop that would take me in and trade shop experience for shop maintenance. I never really knew when I graduated until I was given a permanent tattoo station to work from.
The tattoo styles I specialize in are Black & Grey, Traditional, Neo Traditional, Fine Line, Realism, Color and Script
I have unique style blending traditional and contemporary elements to reflect my client’s story
What I enjoy the most about tattooing is that the learning never stops, you get out of if what you put into it. I love that it’s an ongoing journey that opens many doors. I am be blessed to draw pictures on people for a living.
I love being well rounded with my tattoo experience. I have the freedom to create tattoos in many different styles. I can dabble in all the elements of tattooing.
My tattoo style is unique because I try to make projects 50/50 both of ours.
Clients should expect a custom tattoo even if its flash. I will go out of my way to apply my skills to make the design different even if just with a shading technique or color scheme.
Clients should expect from me 100% effort a smile and an occasional honest no with their best interest in mind.
I prefer custom tattoos using their references for the best tattoo results.
I enjoy travel, concerts, live sports, or just spending time with loved ones.
I Enjoy a good refreshment, a nice dinner and the company of my pets too.
I really want to focus on portraits I feel comfortable with my skill level and excited to sharpen them even further.
I’m proud of every tattoo I have done because I know I gave it my all. I am thankful for my clients especially and most importantly their trust.
